Ed's Top 20 (18 - 24 Oct 2010)

Matt Cardle - When Love Takes Over (The X Factor Live)

Here's a great version of When Love Takes Over.

Aiden Grimshaw - Mad World (The X Factor Live)

Adien is another one to look out for in the X Factor. He did a great version of Mad World in which Simon says, he's the second person he had heard being able to carry the song, the other was in Amercia, guess who??? Adam Lambert it has to to be.

Andrew 陈势安 - 天后 MV

Malaysian Singer Andrew is no stranger in his country, in which 天后 was a big hit in Malaysia last year. With the album going to be release in Taiwan, think it's gonna be a big hit for him plus starring in the current Taiwaness drama 女王不下班, with fellow countryman Nicolas Teo, gonna boost the extra attention.

Wilson Phillips - Christmas In Harmony

Well it's the 20th Anniversary of the greatest all girl band of the 90's with a strings of No.1 hits in the US, Hold On, Release Me & You're In Love and what a great way to celebrate with a new release of a Christmas Album. I remember my fave Christmas song from WP was Silent Night, which was available on A Very Special Christmas Vol. 2 and the B-Sides of the single Flesh & Blood. The album's gonna be release this month, can't wait.

Note Piti - Khon tee ter mong parn

Here's another up and coming young artist from Thailand. Note, one of the winner from Hutch Talent, with his debut single Khon Tee Ter Mong Parn.

ADELE - Make You Feel My Love

Just love this song though its been 2 years since it was released (originally by Bod Dylan). Taken from the debut album of Adele "19". The grammy award winner is back on the UK Top 5 once again with this track and thanks to a couple of contestants singing it on X Factor Season 7.

Matt Cardle - You know that I'm no good - X Factor Season 7 - Audition 2...

The latest season of X Factor's gonna spawn lotsa great singers but Matt Cardle, gonna go all the way to the end and this cover of Amy Winehouse really rock the house.

Lula - Love Me Before Sunset/ Ratree nee...(Yung eak klai) ราตรีนี้...(ยังอีกแสนไกล)

Lula's the greatest Bossa Nova Thai Artist to date. Easy listening, great interesting vocals. Love Me Before Sunset/ Ratree nee...(Yung eak klai) are the greatest Bossa Tracks of 2010.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Cathy Dennis - Sophia Loren

Originally a single to be released off her new album but was changed to a B-Side. What a waste, cos the B-Side Sophia Loren would have been a bigger hit. Another great track by the talented Pop Doctor Cathy Dennis. Well, it's been said that Sophie's UK Top 10 hit Catch You, co-written by Cathy, is gonna be covered by Paris Hilton on her up-coming new album.
Well Sophie's new album gonna include the fantastic leaked track On & On, which clubs played 2 years back but yet to be released officially. It is gonna be a BIG hit if it's gonna ever be release as a single. It was already a mistake for Rosin Murphy (formally of Moloko) to  exclude On & On on her 2007 album Overpowered. Sophie really need a Big Hit, her past few singles were really really weak.

Tae Witsaratch Sukwatanasiri เต้ วิทย์สรัช สุขวัฒนศิริ - Call Me Back (Single)

Taken off the unknown new album, Call Me Back can be found on both Grammy New Release Vol. 6 and Downtown Story Vol. 2, with different mixes.

Terence Yin 尹子维 - I Do / 铁了心 MTV

尹子维 Terence, is not stranger to the acting world but when it comes to singing, most people would've missed his debut album, in mandarin, way back in 2000. His vocals wasn't that bad but he was so tighted up with acting that no promos were done, hence the album flopped. I have the debut single MV but my fave song in the album would have to be I Do. Enjoy.

Susanna Hoffs - Unconditional Love

Well this was the only song that was taken off my blog, no idea why cos the CD is no longer in print, and how could such a nice song goes to waste. Well, to make it up, here's the MV.

Christina Aguilera feat. Cathy Dennis - Little Dreamer

Officially one of the 4 tracks co-written by Cathy Dennis to be the album "Bionic" but was shelfed... no idea why but it coulda be a great track on the album... what were you thinkin xtina????

Soul Divas: 90's Collection Volume 1

Here's some classic selection from the Divas from the 90's. Most of the CDs have been discon't. Most not-popular artists or songs but they are great tracks.
Buddy X from Neneh was a Top 60 hit on Billboard and was a Top 30 hit in the UK but it was the re-released in 1999 in the UK that it managed to peaked within the Top 20.
Come In Out Of The Rain was Wendy's biggest hit ever though it failed to Top the charts in the US but it was a Top 10 in the UK and was a No.1 Smash in Japan.
Do Unto Me was the 3 rd Single released from Karyn's second album. The track didn't manage to chart on the singles chart but the maxi-single did have additional remixes to the Club Hit Walkin' The Dog.
Faces Of Love was the 3rd single released from Nia Peeble's self-titled album. It only managed to peak at No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100.
How Can I Ease The Pain was the only Hit for Lisa Fischer which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I'm Overjoyed was the first single released by Marvin Gaye's daughter Nona, but it failed to chart.
In My Garden by Jennifer Brown was only released in Europe. Though it wasn't a hit but it's a great tune.
Lisa Lisa best know for the classic Lost In Emotion, released Let The Beat Hit'Em in 1991and it barely made it into the Billboard Top 40.
Livin' In The Light was the debut solo single from Soul II Soul's Caron Wheeler. It was a UK Top 20 Hit and peaked at No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Rush Rush was a US No.1 Hit from Paula but this is a rare version which was available only as a promo single in the US.
Dana Dawson was known for the Single 3 Is Family in Europe but her second album Black Butterfly which was a big hit in the UK. Sad Sad Song was one of the tracks from Black Butterful which shoulda been a single.
Somewhere was Shanice's first single from her 3rd album 21.. It failed to follow the success of her second album Inner Child which had the international hit I Love Your Smile.
Sweet Love by Nazlyn's a cover of Anita Bakers classic. This junge beat version was a UK Top 20. Vocally, it's fantastic.
Tender Kisses was a Top 40 hit for Tracie Spencer taken off her second album Make The Difference. Though the album didn't chart well, it did produced 3 Top 40 Hits on Billboard.
The One I Gave My Heart To by the late Aaliyah was another Gold single in the USA. The dance remix was cool too.
SWV's debut album was a huge hit which Weak available in. Weak was a US No. 1 Hit. SWV most remembered track would have to be Right Here, the Human Nature Remix which is a sample of Michael Jackson's Human Nature.
Salt N' Pape were known female rapper but hardly any chart luck in USA. You Showed Me was a Top 60 Hit.

Navi (ft. K.Will) - We Really Did Love Each Other MV

Looks like its K. Will's year as he has been working with tons of other artists, Navi, E Sang, Miryo etc... but this is a beautiful ballad and K's voice can't go wrong.

Tara Kemp

Tara was another up-coming star in the early 90's with 2 Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles. Hold Me Tight and Piece Of My Heart were really hot on the charts and both were taken off Tara's Self Titled album. A total of 3 singles released and the last was Too Much, which just managed to hit within the Top 90 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Following the success, a second album was shelfed due to contract issue with the recording company and only 1 track was available on the soundtrack of Class Act.

Stacy Earl

I guess lotsa people would have forgotten Stacy Earl or probably have no idea who she is. Stacy was an up-coming star back in the early 90's. Her debut self titled album spawned 3 Hits, with the first 2 singles Love Me All Up & Romeo & Juliet (feat The Wild Pair, the group which did Paula Abdul's Opposite Attracts) hitting Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles and the final single, a ballad, Slowly, barely make it to No. 80.

There'll Never Be Another... Michael Damien

Well, not alot of people will remember Michael Damien, but he was like the teen pop idol back in the late 80's with the US No. 1 Hit Rock On and the ballad that's still playing on the radio Was It Nothing At All. Both hits were taken off his third and most successful album Where Do We Go From Here.
Moving on there were albums Dreams Of Summer, which includes a few great tunes like (There'll Never Be) Another You and I'd Do Anything, but the album only release one single What A Price To Pay, which only made it into the Top 60 on the Billboard chart.
Then the following album, Reach Out To Me and Time Of The Season, did badly too though it was pretty alright. Michael was the lead actor of the Tim Rice's broadway classic, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, in which the American version also had Donny Osmond as Joseph. In Asia, it was Jason Donovan that was hugely remembered for.
Well enjoy this collection.

1) Was It Nothing At All
2) (There'll Never Be) Another You
3) I'd Do Anything
4) If You Want It
5) Reach Out To Me
6) Why Can't We All Live Together
7) Never Walk Away
8) I'm What You Need
9) Time Of The Season
10) Romeo & Juliet
11) Reach Out To Me (Single Radio Mix)
12) Reach Out To Me (Power Mix)
13) Reach Out To Me (Extended Dance Mix)
14) Time Of The Season (Single Edit)
15) Time Of The Season (Hot Mix)
16) Time Of The Season (Club Edit)

Movng into the Top 10 is Livvi with Automatik, at No. 8 and Aariff, at No. 9.

Hotel California - Wilson Phillips

Hotel California was recorded live in Japan back in 91. Orginally released as a B-Side of the single You're In Love. I thought that this version is not too bad. It's a classic flashback from my all time fave girl band.

Mos Patiparn - My Girlfriend

Mos Partiparn was the first Thai Singer that got me hooked to Thai Music. That was way back in 2005. Every country I go, the first place that I will go or will catches me is the record stall. So happens that when I was at MBK, I was asking the record shop asst to introdue me some Thai CDs, and Mos was the first he picked up and play a couple of tracks for me, and I bought it.
When I was back, I kept playing the CD and my fave track was My Girlfriend. For 6 months I was constantly playing the CD. It's a great album, the 2005 self titled album. After that, I tried to backtrack Mos' older stuff, but it was kinda not my cup of tea. Mos started of as an teenage idol, and vocally, it was quite terrible, but his 2005 self titled album, you can hear the difference, in his vocal control, the style, he did alot to improve and I admire that. Great album, great listening pleasure.

Wun thong : วันทอง - NANA

NANA self titled album released in 2007, was like one of my fave album of the year. I could listen to the whole album and not get sick ot it. After an album, the band disappeared. Darn, I was waiting for their second release.
Below is the debut single from the band. Still a great album. Enjoy.

Ed's Top 20 - 7 to 13 June 2010

More movements this week and the new No.1 is Super Juniors' ultra catchy tune Bonamana. James is up 2 spots t No. 2 with It's About Time and Bie hangs on for the third week at No. 3. Kylie drops to No. 4 with her 2010 No. 1 hit All The Lovers.
4 new entries this week with Christina Aguilera at No. 10, the hot shot debut with Birds Of Prey, taken off her latest Bionic album. Birds Of Prey is available on the deluxe edition only. Such a waste as her first 2 single really didnt turn out to be hits though Not Myself Tonight is a great title but the tune's just missing some elements. The dance mixes were better. Birds of Prey is a little inbetween chill (chill remixed would be great with Indian Beats) and Electronic (dance mixes will make it massive). A little disappointed when Bionic didn't include the track Kimono Girls.

Second new entry come in at No. 13 with new comer Aarif with the title track from the acclaim movie Echoes of Rainbow which stars Simon Yen, Sandra Ng and Aarif. Great movie, very old school format but heart warming, something that has been missing in Asian movies for sometime.
At No. 17, SG Wannabe Lee Seok Hoon's solo debut kicks in and at No. 20, new group 8eight sets in with a rapper, a male vocalist and a female vocalist. The male vocalist has almost the same tone as K Will and I did thought that it was K.
Ok Dokie till next week, have fun.... cheerios
